setec’s involvement in offshore wind dates back about ten years, around the time the Breton company In vivo (now a brand of the setec energie Environnement subsidiary) joined the group.
At a time when French projects from AO1 and AO2 tenders were launched but struggling to progress, In vivo was already producing most of the required environmental studies.
Quickly integrated into the setec ecosystem, this company specializing in biodiversity and marine environment raised awareness among many employees about the challenges of offshore wind. Today, it is the company within the group that generates the most revenue from offshore wind.
This valuable expertise complements setec’s activities in maritime engineering, as setec has been carrying out civil engineering missions in port engineering and floating concrete structures for over 30 years.
At the same time, a new generation of engineers is emerging and demanding stronger commitments to contribute to making our living environment and projects more sustainable. As setec celebrates its 60th anniversary, young engineers are saying in unison and without hesitation: we want to save the world.
By choosing the decarbonization of our economies (industry, mobility, infrastructure, buildings, energy…) and resilience and adaptation to climate change as the guiding principle, the setec 2020-2025 strategic plan (Transitions 2025) largely reflects this. It challenges engineers to make these commitments concrete. Energy is no exception, and the development of a segment dedicated to renewable electricity production, with its share of innovations and complexities, becomes evident. setec offshore wind was born.
Incubated within the Group, nurtured by the experience of knowledgeable engineers, promoted by several subsidiaries early on engaged in the theme, it has now found its place thanks to the involvement of employees inspired by wind energy issues and the desire to provide pragmatic solutions.
