Our mission
Brest Port has initiated the InFloW project to position itself as a key player in the development of the wind energy sector, particularly for floating offshore wind turbines. Their production is organised into 5 stages:
- Theme 1: Transshipment of floater and wind turbine components
- Theme 2: Layout of the terminal for the production of floaters (steel and concrete)
- Theme 3: Launching/load out of floaters
- Theme 4: wet storage of floaters and wind turbines
- Theme 5: Integration of the wind turbine on the Brest site
Phase 1 of INFLOW resulted in a multi-criteria analysis (technical-economic and environmental analysis) of different solutions proposed for each of the 5 stages of wind turbine production.
Phase 2 looked at different development scenarios combining some of the solutions identified in phase 1. The timing of the French wind farm projects, and in particular that of the AO5 (not awarded at the time of the study), was a key factor in this analysis:
- Stage 1 – Horizon 2029: investments made before the AO5, depending on the maximum capacity of the infrastructure, to be determined; steel or concrete floaters.
- Stage 2 – Horizon 2032: investments made after AO5, depending on the turbine targeted in the phase 1 studies; steel or concrete floats
The project was managed in two phases, covering a wide range of expertise (port, logistics, offshore, structural engineering, geotechnical and environmental engineering). Several subsidiaries of setec were invovlved (setec tpi, setec offshore wind, terrasol, setec energies envirpnnement) and were suported by external partners (Narval Solutions, FlowIndus, Geoz-consulting).
With the support of a college of experts selected for their complementary skills to those of setec, in particular for port logistics dedicated to offshore wind energy, the studies carried out enabled the following results to be delivered:
- Summary of input data: existing structures, wind farm projects, assumptions about floating wind turbines and types of floaters
- Identification of logistical organisation schemes for the production of steel and concrete floaters
- Technical feasibility studies of the geotechnical and structural reinforcements required
- Analysis of the environmental impact of the solutions
- Estimates of the cost of the works (CAPEX) and their planning
- Layout plans for the port facilities
